Yoga for Concentration: 7 Yoga Poses to Improve Mental Focus

Below are 7 yoga exercises that will help you improve your concentration.

1. Paschimottanasana (Seated Forward Bend) 

Starting with an easy one. Here you have to first make sure that your stomach is empty and bowels are clean. After that, you have to sit with your legs straight, bend your back forward and try to touch your feet with your hands. Try to hold the pose for at least 30 seconds.

2. Tadasana (Mountain Pose)

Tadasana is the base of every yoga pose. Make sure to have an empty stomach or at least a gap of 3 hours from your last meal before Tadasana. Here you have to stand straight and still like a mountain. Start breathing in and out slowly. Hold this pose for at least 20 seconds and proceed with your yoga further.

3. Garudasana (Eagle Pose)

Garudasana is inspired by the king of all birds, eagle. Doing this pose early morning is great for your body and mind. Once your bowels are clean and your stomach is empty begin the pose by doing Tadasana first. And, then twist your legs and hand on each other while standing on one leg. I know it’s a little too much. Try to hold this pose for at least 10-30 seconds.

4. Bakasana (Crane Pose)

As the name suggests, here you have to pose as a crane. Honestly, it can be a little intimidating at first but as they say, practice makes perfect. Try this pose every morning and evening on an empty stomach. Here you have to hold up the body on your hands and keeping your knees bent while touching your shoulders. Once you get a hold of it, it’s a very rewarding pose. Try to hold it for at least 20 seconds and increase it as you get better.

5. Vrikshasana (Tree Pose)

Vriksha means Tree in English. It is a beginner level asana practised usually in the morning on an empty stomach. Start Vrikshasana with Tadasana and slowly move into the pose. Put your left on your right thigh and join your hand flat. Try to maintain the balance as long as you can.

6. Natarajasana (Dancer Pose)

This asana is named after Nataraja, a dancing avatar of Lord Shiva. This pose demands flexibility, balance and patience just as a dancer. Here you have to stand on one leg while holding the other leg behind with your hand and stretching out the other hand in the opposite direction. Holding this pose will take time as it is an intermediate level asana.

7. Ustrasana (Camel Pose)

Ustrasana will remind of a camel hence the camel pose. This is a basic asana which doesn’t require a lot of practice. Here you have to stand on our knees and bend backwards while touching your feet with your hands. It’s ideal to do this early morning on an empty stomach and clean bowels. Try to hold this pose for at least 30-60 seconds.
